International Students

International Students at RES

As part of the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) and the Global Anglican Future Conference (GAFCON) Reformed Episcopal Seminary is committed to serving the Worldwide Anglican body of Christ. We have served students from North & South America, Europe, Asia, and Africa and look forward to identifying and developing partners in every continent, country, and jurisdiction.

There are two paths to study at RES for international students:
  • Students may choose to join us virtually. In that case there is no need for a visa but you still need a sufficient TOEFL score.
  • For students  choosing to study in person but are not US citizens, have a student visa, or some other arrangement that allows them to legally reside in the United States during their course of study, we encourage you to follow the attached, recommended steps to obtain admission to the seminary and the requisite visa:

RES Policy on English Proficiency
Whether you’re applying to study at RES in person, online, or as a transfer student, you must demonstrate proficiency in English to be considered for admission to any of our programs. Students who have completed both their secondary school and university course work entirely in English do not need to submit TOEFL scores.  In such a case, students may submit a copy of their high school transcript or diploma in addition to the university transcript.

How do I demonstrate English proficiency?
If you’ve completed previous education in a country where English is not the language of instruction, you can demonstrate proficiency by taking the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)* examination: Internet-based test (iBT) or iBT Home Edition with a minimum score of 80 or better.

(NOTE) RES does not accept IELTS One Skill Retake or MyBest TOEFL. Only the highest composite score from a single sitting is allowed. Also, the digital SAT Reading and Writing section score has not been approved to meet English language proficiency.

Keep in mind that RES may request an interview to determine English skills during the application review process.

How do I send my scores to RES?
Please send them to [email protected]. We strongly recommend that you take the test as early as possible, because your score may be a factor in whether or not we're able to admit you.
Information about these exams is available at most U.S. consulates and overseas U.S. educational advising offices, as well as by mail and online:
